The @Doxie Go Wi-Fi Review

I've been a big fan of Doxie for many years now. I've been striving to be free of paper more and more and Doxie has helped me fight that battle. Now, there is a new Doxie Go Wi-Fi that allows me to scan on the go and connect directly to my mobile device.

The Doxie Go Wi-Fi was simple to use and easy to set up. I was scanning within minutes of downloading the iOS app on my phone and iPad. The free app allows users to connect to the Doxie Go Wi-Fi and access all of the scans on their device. From there, the user can send those to their favorite cloud storage system.

Turn it on and wait for the blue light
Scan everything you need
Send to your favorite cloud storage system
The Doxie Go Wi-Fi has it's own Wi-Fi that you connect your device to so that you can grab the scans from the scanner. Once the connection has been made, the PDFs can be added to your device and shared in many different ways. For me, I send my scans to Evernote for my personal work and I send my school scans to Google Drive. I could text them or email to others if it something quick.

The Doxie Go Wi-Fi sill can connect to your computer and the Doxie software is still great for quick edits to the scanned documents. The flexibility of being able to scan and connect to my mobile device when I'm traveling and still make scans when I'm home and connected to my computer is priceless.
Some try to say that taking pictures with your phone is "good enough" for scanning documents and I just do not buy it. Doxie Go Wi-Fi will scan in full color up to 600 dpi. That makes for very crisp photos and documents. I have been scanning old family photos using my Doxie and it works great. I can keep scanning and saving my work as I go. I can sit comfortably on the couch and scan away and connect to my computer when I'm ready. The portability of the scanner is a nice feature that should not be understated.

The Doxie Go Wi-Fi is listed at $229, but there is special education pricing that is worth checking out. The Doxie Go Wi-Fi has been an excellent addition to my backpack as I travel to conferences and have more of a mobile work station in my life. The Doxie Go Wi-Fi is worth adding to your educational space and personal life.

Doxie sent me a Doxie Go Wi-Fi for the purpose of this review, but I still love it because it is awesome.

Doxie Flip Review

I was sent a Doxie Flip for this review.

I was really excited to get my new Doxie Flip in the mail. I knew immediately that this would be perfect in my classroom and will help me save everything I do in class, but most importantly, it will help my students save everything as well.

There are so many different ways to use this mobile scanner in the classroom. Here are some that standout.

One simple way to use the Doxie Flip is to save your photos or scan handwritten notes. The can be placed right on the screen, close the lid and scan. It works the same way large scanners will accept this guy will go anywhere you want. The SD card is perfect for those that want to scan on the go and upload to your favorite tablet. Taking high quality scans does not have to be a time consuming job waiting in line at the copier/scanner. Keeping the Flip on the desk for some quick scanning is perfect for those trying to organize their paper life.

Sometimes we want to scan things, but there really isn't a good way to get that page or drawing. The Flip has a lid that can be removed and a see-through bottom to allow you to see what you are scanning.

I know that some people will suggest that the camera on their phone can do all of these things. They would be kind of right. Yes, a camera on your phone or tablet can take pictures, but it cannot get the high quality image that a scan will. Also, the scanner rests right over the item being scanned and it will not be blurry because you were slightly moving your hand. While a phone can get the job done, the Doxie Flip can get it done right.

With my IdeaPaint coated desks, I look forward to having my students use the Flip to scan their notes and designs on their desks and save them to Evernote using the SD dongle connected to the iPad. The Flip can also be connected to you home computer where you can save your scans can be uploaded to your favorite cloud based network (Evernote for me!). Here are some other creative examples of using Doxie Flip.

Here are some info on the tech specs.

The Doxie Flip is a great product that has a nice place on my desk for all of my quick scan needs and creative ideas that need capturing and saving. It is perfect for sharing in a classroom or a department because the SD card access and quick upload to devices. For $150, the Doxie Flip is a great price for an excellent tool.

Mobile Scanning Needs Met By @Doxie #EduTour

There are many people that are going to look at this post and say, "Why not just take a picture?" Yes, taking a picture might be faster, but it would not always be better. There are things that I want to look good and that is where the Doxie Scanner comes in to play.

I figured there might be things that I want to save and share with everyone and the camera on my iPhone 4 might not be good enough to capture the way I want. The Doxie Scanner I am using for the trip is the Doxie Go. Doxie has a few options worth checking out. I like the Doxie Go because it has the SD card slot that allows me to do the scanning I need and then upload them to the my iPad using the iPad/SD card connector. If I want, I can also just scan the items directly into Evernote when the scanner is connected to my laptop.

The Doxie Scanners are all very easy to carry around and keep in your backpack or luggage without any problem. As someone who travels often, it is nice to have a portable scanner that fits nicely in my luggage and can be used without a laptop. I never know when I will have to scan something and send it somewhere and the Doxie Go is great for my mobile scanning needs.

I have used Doxie in my classroom with the iPads and it has worked nicely for my students. They were able to scan written work and upload it to their Evernote accounts. They did this while the rest of class worked on projects, so it was a nice way to keep their e-portfolios up to date. Doxie is the perfect tool in my classroom when I need 30 people to scan from their desks.

.@Evernote For The Busy Administrator #EdChat

One of the big issues administrators need to deal with are regular teacher evaluations. Having talked with many admins, this is a very time consuming part of their job and many use different systems to evaluate teachers. I think Evernote is a perfect tool for admins to use while making their evaluation rounds.

Evernote allows the user to create specific notebooks that store the notes users create. A notebook could be created for a specific teacher and notes on that teacher can be entered into that notebook. On the day of the evaluation, the admin can arrive a few minutes early and take some pictures of the class setup  and save them directly into Evernote. The observation notes can be stored in Evernote and then later shared with the teacher before the follow-up meeting. A new note could be created and the follow-up meeting's notes could be stored and then later shared with the teacher as well. All of the information regarding the observation would be saved on Evernote and would be accessible from any device with the app or an internet connection.

This teacher's notebook would fill with different notes over the course of the their career. If the admin retires or leaves, the notebook can be shared with the next admin who takes over the observation duties. Evernote is also perfect to add those informal observation notes. If the admin sees something awesome the teacher did in class or the hallway, a quick note can be added to their notebook on that teacher that can be shared with them later that day. On the other side, if the admin notices something that needs to be addressed, it can also be added to the notebook and talk to the teacher about the specifics of the incident.

I also see Evernote as a great way for admins to store all of their meeting information. One of the main reasons it is so hard to get time to talk to an admin is because they are always in meetings. These meetings span from budget issues to discipline issues. Evernote is great for keeping many different notebooks for different topics. No longer are multiple notepads needed for different topics. The camera can be used to take pictures of handouts received at meetings or the Doxie Scanner can scan them into Evernote after the meeting. All of these different notebooks would be available at all time on a personal device or an internet enabled desktop.

The days of running around with different binders filled with tons of paper are over for the busy admin when they sign up and use Evernote. Any leader that is looking for a better way to organize their professional life needs to take a long hard look at integrating Evernote into their daily routine.

Doxie Go Smart Digital Scanner - A Review

Doxie sent me a Doxie Go Smart Digital Scanner for the purpose of this review.

The big one for me is seeing how it is going to work with my iPad. If I'm scanning things, I want to access them on my iPad. If you are not using a wireless SD card, it would be wise to get the Camera Connection Kit. With a traditional SD card, you can scan the documents you want then slide the card into the connection to your iPad. The documents are instantly upload to iPhoto. From there, you can drop them into specific Evernote or Dropbox accounts. If you tend to need lots of scanning and travel quite often, the wireless SD card might be the route to go. If it is just occasional scanning with your iPad present, the traditional SD card will be fine.

At $199, the Doxie Go Smart Digital Scanner might seem pricey, but I think it is a great value. I have plenty of items that need to be scanned and saved in one of the many other tools that Doxie works. I will have receipts from travelling, pictures that Leo will draw and many other things that I will receive in paper form that I will want to save in my digital space.

I could see how this awesome scanner could be used in an Elementary classroom where a teacher scans and shares work their students complete with parents and the school as a whole. Since it is such a quick scan and load process, Teachers could quickly scan student work and share it before the students even get home. What a great way to create a digital portfolio of a student's work.

If you are looking for a great way to quickly organize the clutter of paper on your desk into your digital life, look no further than the Doxie Go Smart Digital Scanner.
